Here I Am

Here I Am

The prospect of starting a blog in earnest is a bit daunting. Do I even have anything worthwhile to say? Sometimes I feel like I’m fumbling along. Sometimes I just need a little reminder that we can all learn a thing or two, no matter where we are in life.

Then I look at this small bronze statue of a reading chimp on my desk. I found it about a year and a half ago at an antique store in Gardnerville, NV. It is one of my favorite things.

This is, of course, a rather famous depiction of Professor George Henry Applebaum III reading a scientific journal shortly after he successfully transformed himself into a chimp. The journal contained the conclusions of his many peers (and rivals) who had attempted the same feat for years. After a few noble attempts and many, many more outright failures, the scientific community resolutely concluded that it was simply impossible.

But Professor George Henry Applebaum III had proved them all wrong! His victory was glorious and triumphant. The defeat of his rivals? Bitter and humiliating.

This little statue has reminded me that anything is possible. I don’t think I’m out of line to proclaim that this will be the best blog ever written. Trenchant insights! Transcendent epiphanies! Art that will usher in a new renaissance.

NOTHING CAN GO WRONG.
